Beyond Board Books: Launching a Book Club for Dads

As an avid reader, I love talking about books. The problem is, outside of my usual book club, not many people in my immediate circle share that passion. When I became a stay-at-home dad, my opportunities to talk about books—or anything else, for that matter—with other adults virtually vanished.
Then, I found the Dads Supporting Dads Community.
I loved going to our local meetups, from Dad’s Night Out to Toddler Playtime. I met some really cool people and finally found folks who wanted to chat about what they were reading. Whether we were discussing Cool Gray City of Love by Gary Kamiya or the latest chapter of One Piece by Eiichiro Oda, I realized these conversations could go on forever.
That’s when it hit me: why not make one of our meetups a book club?
Introducing the Dads Supporting Dads’ Book Club 📚
If you like to read and want a space to talk about books, we’d love for you to join us. Here is how it will work:
- Monthly Meetups: We will meet once a month to discuss a specific book.
- Plenty of Notice: The book will be announced a month in advance so everyone has time to read it.
- Open Discussion: You don’t have to wait for the meetup! Use our community space to share what you’re currently reading, drop recommendations, or ask for your next great book idea.
Our first book will be from Dads Supporting Dads’ Chief Dad Officer, Kevin Seldon — The DILF (Dad I’d Like To… Friend) Handbook — with book proceeds benefiting the work we’re doing to better support fathers here at Dads Supporting Dads. And despite the comedic title, this book has been praised as a refreshing resource for dads with kids of all ages:
“The DILF (Dad I’d Like To Friend) Handbook replaces silence with language, and isolation with support, so dads don’t have to carry the hardest parts of parenthood alone. Not because dads need to be rescued. Because they deserve support, too.” —FORBES

Looking forward to talking books!
