Playing Peek-A-Boo

Little babies and kids love games. Adults love games too. However, it amazes me how playing the game of peek-a-boo can get an infant so excited. It is the solution to a crying baby, a fussy baby, a tired baby, or a bored baby. This at-home dad is not afraid to admit that I play it all of the time. When I get my son in the morning, he is already holding up his little blanket ready to play our first game of peek-a-boo. He enjoys the game so much, that he has learned to put his hands over his eyes when the blanket is not around.

I read this somewhere on the net & thought it summed up the game nicely:
“Give a child a blanket and an adult with a lot of patience and you have given him/her hours of unadulterated fun. Hold the blanket up between you and the baby and the child’s undeveloped brain forgets you are there. Drop the blanket, say “peek-a-boo” with a big smile on your face, and the child will laugh and squeal with great joy, because you are a brand new smiling face for them to see. Repeat until the child gets cranky or until you grow bored, whichever comes first.”

Now, I frequently find myself ducking under counters, behind walls, or creating borders between my son & I…just to get that silly grin & cackle laugh. Worth it every time!
