American Academy of Pediatrics Publishes New Car Seat Recommendations

As a parent, I have been known to give my son a little more leeway than some others when it comes to taking risks at a playground. Case in point is below at our recent jaunt to Patch Reef Playground in sunny Delray Beach, Florida:

Consequently, when it comes to driving in a car with my 2 1/2 year old…I have a zero-tolerance for risks.  For example, we waited until our son was two years old to turn his car seat to forward facing from rear facing.  Even though it looked uncomfortable for his legs and most friends changed the seat around when their children were 12 – 18 months old, we knew it was the safer route, so we stuck with it as long as we could.  Interestingly, the American Academy of Pediatrics published new car seat recommendations this week – one of their main recommendations it to keep your child rear facing as long as possible, but at least until age 2!  Check out today’s NY Times article analyzing some of the latest recommendations.
