Indoor Playspaces Are Not Only For the Winter

When we moved into our building before we had our son, we never really thought about the amenities our building offers for children. It would be a lot different now that we have a child. Our building has a private & gated playground with a few swings, a sprayground, and small play-gym area. I never realized how valuable this amenity would be until we had our son. Now, it is the optimal solution when my son gets fussy and I have to get outside to soothe him (or me). Unfortunately, even though our building is filled with families that have young children, we do not have an indoor playspace. An indoor playroom would be the perfect outlet for winter as well as those hot & humid summer days. My suggestion for expecting parents when looking for a new apartment – I know a screening or a billiards room sounds sweet, but make sure they have good amenities for the kids. You can thank me later.

If you are living in a building that does not offer indoor playspaces like mine, then connect with your friends that have one. Yesterday, as the temperature was rising close to ninety degrees, I had the chance to congregate with a dozen of the dads in our NYC Dads playgroup for some indoor playroom action. One of the dads, Josh K., was generous to host our group in his building’s playroom. Having conversations with the other dads about sleep habits, welcoming a few first time members, the announcement of NY Jets starting QB, and the details of our upcoming Fantasy Football League certainly beat sweating it out in the local park. The kids were motoring around the room (except a few newbies who were napping), interacting with each other, and playing with all of the toys (pictured above). Much appreciated, Josh!

I always thought that indoor playspaces were the ideal solution for kids during the winter, but it is also perfect during the NYC heat wave we have been experiencing recently.
